OBJECTIVE

In this course you are provided with all information regarding studies and universities: You learn about important facilities, deal with central types of text and academic linguistic structures and you gain an insight into academic working techniques for your studies.

TARGET GROUP

Advanced learners of German who want to improve their study-related language skills and international students aiming for studies in Germany.

Language requirements: Level B2 according to CEFR

TOPICS AND CONTENT

  • The German university: Who, what, how, where, with whom?
  • Work and time management
  • Learning techniques
  • Searching, receiving and evaluating information
  • Preparation for the application at partner universities (motivation letter), choice of study, application (motivation letter), enrollment
  • Communication with students, teachers and administration (written and oral)
  • Course types at the university: listening, discussing, taking notes
  • The first semester: schedule, study organisation
  • Libraries and literature research with OPAC system
  • Scientific types of text and discourses: presentation, lecture, transcript, excerpt, minutes, assignment

The course is based on the book: Moll, M. / Thielmann, W. (2016) Wissenschaftliches Deutsch. UTB, Reihe: Studieren, aber richtig. Konstanz: UVK Verlagsgesellschaft (online-Version 15.99 Euro). The book is not included in the course price.
